Higher Robin Hood Field in Helsby is first recorded in 1844. Higher Robin Hood Field in Helsby is first recorded in 1844. It was named after the Robin Hood pub which was until recently located on the eastern corner of Chester Road and Lower Robin Hood Lane. Higher Robin Hood Field was located on the western corner of Robin Hood Lane and Chester Road, i.e. diagonally across the intersection from the pub.
Higher Robin Hood Field is listed in the 1844 tithe award for Helsby with a William Forshaw as owner, John Lewis as occupier, state of cultivation as 'Arable', and an area of 1 acre, 1 rood and 4 perches (5159.74 m2).[1] The field extended something like 60 m south.
