Coningsburgh Road, Kirk Sandall.
By Henrik Thiil Nielsen, 2020-06-18. Revised by Henrik Thiil Nielsen, 2021-01-07.
Coningsburgh Road is one of a cluster of eleven, mainly residential, streets with Robin Hood/Ivanhoe-themed names in Kirk Sandall. As can be seen on 25" and 6" O.S. maps of the area published c. 1930, the road was then planned or under construction. It is named on the maps. In Walter Scott's Ivanhoe (1820), the climactic scenes take place at Conisbrough Castle (renamed Coningsburgh Castle).
