Robin Hood Green is a U-shaped street around a U-shaped lawn. Its centrepoint is a little southeast of that of Robin Hood Shaw, a similarly shaped, slightly larger wooded area, which together with adjacent areas had been developed, by the end of WWII, into a neighbourhood of residential streets that tend to have Robin Hood-themed names.

The right 'arm' of this U-shaped street was originally (meant to be) named Robin Hood Road and is labelled thus on O.S. maps of the immediate post-WWII period. Subsequent low-resolution maps show Robin Hood Green in its modern shape, and presumably its present name stems from that period.
