IRHB comment
The entry refers to a Little John de Cokcroft as well as a John de Cokcroft tout court. Robert, son of John de Cockecroft figures in the court rolls in 1326, and John de Cockecroft in 1327,[3] On these occasions there is no need to distinguish between two John de Cokcrofts as only one is mentioned. He may well have been the man figuring as John de Cokcroft tout court in 1324, but we cannot rule out the possibility that he was in fact Little John de Cokcroft. The 1324 Little John seems to have been overlooked by Yorkshire local historians and others scouring the Wakefield Manor court rolls for 'originals' of the characters of the early Robin Hood poems.
