Robin Hood Arms, formerly the Lord Belper Inn, were situated at or near the present 49 Beacon Hill Rise. The pub is first recorded in 1941.
Back then Beacon Hill Rise was named Robin Hood Street. By 1881 and until some time in the early 20th century, the still existing Lamartine Street was divided into a western part, named 'Lamartine Street' tout court, and an eastern one named 'East Lamartine Street'. By 1915 the two had been connected as 'Lamartine Street'. This street continued east a few tens of metres past Beacon Hill Rise (then Robin Hood Street) as had 'East Lamartine Street'.[1] The Robin Hood Arms were located on the north-east corner of Robin Hood and Lamartine Streets.[2] Pub Wiki, which lists only a single (1941) directory entry of this pub, cites the street number as 41, but the 1901 and 1911 censuses are in agreement that the address was 76 Robin Hood Street. In the 1901 census, the pub is still named the Lord Belper Inn, while that of 1911 lists the head of household as a publican but does not name the pub.[3] IRHB does not know when the pub closed, but the building was still standing – and the pub possibly open – in 1966.[4]
The pub is only included on the 25" O.S. maps published 1901 and 1915 (as 'P.H.'). For Robin Hood Street and related place-names in the vicinity, see Victoria Park (Nottingham) place-name cluster. Template:PnItemQry
