The neighbourhood named Sherwood in Tunbridge Wells seems to owe its name to the presence of a Robin Hood pub in the area.
'Sherwood' is recorded on late-19th century maps as the name of an area now known as 'Sherwood Park'. In 20th and 21st century use, 'Sherwood' refers to an entire neighbourhood in the north-east of Tunbridge Wells. While there is no indication that the name, as applied to the neighbourhood or the present 'Sherwood Park', refers to the forest of that name as the habitat of Robin Hood, it probably inspired the name of the Robin Hood on the corner of Birken and Sandhurst Roads. It is also a quite productive place-name element, included in the names of several local establishments, businesses and thoroughfares.
