By 1871 there was a pub named the Robin Hood on the now lost St Simon Street just south of the Irwell in Manchester. It closed in the early 1960s, and the building in which it had been housed was torn down in the 1980s.
 
According to a local researcher, the pub probably opened in the 1850s and was originally named the Wellington Inn.<ref>[http://pubs-of-manchester.blogspot.com/2013/05/robin-hood-st-simon-street.html Pubs of Manchester, Past & Present: Robin Hood, St Simon Street.]</ref> While no source is provided for this, we are on safe ground noting that it is listed in the 1871 census as "Robin Hood" with Solomon Brelsford as "Inn Keeper" and Lydia Brelsford his wife.<ref>[https://www.thegenealogist.co.uk/ The Genealogist: 1871 Census, Lancashire, Piece 04020, Image 00149, No. 29 of schedule.] It is listed under schedule No. 29 (this is not the house number).</ref> In the 1891 census it is again listed as "Robin Hood", at 138 St Simon Street, with Thomas Brennand as "Head" and Sarilla Brennand his wife. In order to prevent flooding it was decided in the 1960s to divert the course of a stretch of the Irwell. By 1871 there was a pub named the Robin Hood on the now lost St Simon Street just south of the Irwell in Manchester. It closed in the early 1960s, and the building in which it had been housed was torn down in the 1980s.

According to a local researcher, the pub probably opened in the 1850s and was originally named the Wellington Inn.[1] While no source is provided for this, we are on safe ground noting that it is listed in the 1871 census as "Robin Hood" with Solomon Brelsford as "Inn Keeper" and Lydia Brelsford his wife.[2] In the 1891 census it is again listed as "Robin Hood", at 138 St Simon Street, with Thomas Brennand as "Head" and Sarilla Brennand his wife. Thomas is listed as "Engraver", but this has been struck through and no other occupation listed instead.[3] In the 1901 census Thomas is listed as "Beerseller", with wife Sarilla, at No. 138, but the pub's name is not cited.[4]

In order to prevent flooding it was decided in the 1960s to divert the course of a stretch of the Irwell. When finished in 1968 or -69, this project, named the 'Anaconda Cut' after a former factory in the neighbourhood,[5] led the river south of the part of St Simon Street where the pub had been situated. This was near what is now the bottom of Cottenham Lane, just north of the present course of the river.

The pub is not included on any of the maps listed below.
