Approximate location of Robin Hood

By Henrik Thiil Nielsen, 2014-10-17. Revised by Henrik Thiil Nielsen, 2017-12-04.

The hamlet of Robin Hood is situated in the Derbyshire parish with the marvellous name of Baslow and Bubnell. It lies less than 3 km ESE of Baslow, immediately NE of Chatsworth Park. It apparently owes its name to the local Robin Hood Inn, which existed under that name by 1840.[1] The hamlet is indicated on 6" O.S. maps of the area dating from 1883 to 1923 that are available online at NLS.[2]

  1. Dobson, R. B., ed.; Taylor, J., ed. Rymes of Robyn Hood: an Introduction to the English Outlaw (London, 1976), pp. 296. D. Dalrymple-Smith in Dalrymple-Smith, David. Barslow in the 1820: or how the Duke got his Golden Gate ([s.l.], 2013) repeatedly uses the name Robin Hood in reference to the hamlet during his discussion of the 1820's Chatsworth enclosure, but this does not necessarily mean that the name was then already in use.
