Dodgson in the English Place-Name Society's third volume on Chester lists the locality without providing any source, which usually indicates a modern date.<ref>{{:Dodgson, John McNeal 1970a}}, vol. III, p. 186; also see vol. V, pt. 1:ii, p. 401.</ref> The earliest record I have found is a 6" O.S. map of the area published in 1881, based on surveying done in 1874. In Little Budworth, Cheshire, at the north end of the area encompassed by Coach Road, White Hall Lane and Beech Road, is or was a Robin Hood's Well (see maps listed below). Dodgson in the English Place-Name Society's third volume on Chester lists the locality without providing any source, which usually indicates a modern date.[1] The earliest record I have found is a 6" O.S. map of the area published in 1881, based on surveying done in 1874. In view of the lack of references on the web, it seems most likely that this place-name is defunct.
