Robin Hood's Penny Stome.
By Henrik Thiil Nielsen, 2013-07-30. Revised by Henrik Thiil Nielsen, 2021-01-06.
Robin Hood's Penny Stone is a large boulder located near the centre of Midgley Moor in the Pennines less than 2 km N of Midgley. It has often been confused with Robin Hood's Penny Stone near Wainstalls which is about 3 km away. The first source I have found to mention it is a 6" O.S. map published 1852 but surveyed 1847-49.[1] This map also has the location of the then destroyed Robin Hood's Penny Stone (at Wainstalls) indicated.
