Record

Morris dancers, who generally came from Whittington, used to dance and sing on 'the Cross' at Cold-Aston thirty or forty years ago. They were a very numerous body, and were gaily dressed in many-coloured clothes.
       I have seen 'Robin Hood's men' dressed in green coats.

IRHB comments

Addy was about forty years old in 1888 when his Glossary containing this passage was published, so he cannot very well have had first-hand memories of morris troupes performing forty years earlier. In his entry on "morris-dance", Addy notes that "Fifty years ago and later Morris-dancers used to assemble in great numbers on 'The Cross' at Cold-Aston."
