Revision as of 00:53, 21 January 2019

Illustration from the book, by Harry E. Theaker (plate facing p. 116).

By Henrik Thiil Nielsen, 2014-07-11. Revised by Henrik Thiil Nielsen, 2019-01-21. Additional information supplied by Andrew Dawson.

Gable considered this "[a]bout the best modern English juvenile edition". As he was a book collector, it is possible he was mainly thinking about the illustrations. The first edition has 48 colour illustrations on plates. They are about the best I have seen. A cheap edition with only one (black and white) illustration was published during WWII.
