'Robin Hood Bottom' is listed as a field name in the tithe award for the township of Bolton Percy (1843).[1] Then a willow garth, this plot of land is now part of a field under cultivation. It is situated c. 725 m WNW of Bolton Percy and c. 175 m S of Oxton Lane.

In 1843 the landowners were the executors of one Boyes, the occupier a Robert Wardman. The area was listed as 2 acres, 1 rood and 25 perches (9737.75 m2), and the state of cultivation was given as: 'Willows'.[2] This irregularly shaped plot of land is bounded by the Foss on all sides except the west, where there was then an apparently now lost bridle road, along whose course are now found a line of trees. The plot seems to be labelled 'Robin Hood Willow Garth' on a 6" O.S. map of the area published in 1849, based on a survey carried out in 1845–46. However, it is possible that only the part 'Robin Hood' is intended as a place-name, the part 'Willow Garth' appearing below 'Robin Hood' and two localities in the immediate vicinity being labelled 'Willow Garth' tout court.

Formerly part of the West Riding of Yorkshire, Bolton Percy now belongs administratively to North Yorkshire. IRHB has tentatively assumed that the place-name 'Robin Hood Bottom' is no longer extant. If this is incorrect, please let us know via the website's contact form.
