The Robin Hood at 12 New Street, the Barbican, Plymouth, already seems to have had a long if largely unrecorded (or undiscovered) history when it closed as a public house in 1931 to continue or be revived as the Robin Hood Club, a night club.
The grade II listed 12 New Street is a beautiful 16th century building in Plymouth's oldest street.[1] According to Plymouth local historian Chris Robinson, the Robin Hood was 'an even older establishment' than the Robin Hood and Little John at Prince Rock, which was in existence by the mid-19th century.[2] Circa 2009, the Robin Hood nightclub gave way to Shirley Valentine's Taverna, which specialised in Turkish and Mediterranean cuisine[3] Still more recently this restaurant was replaced by Kapadokya, a Turkish restaurant.[4] The Pub Wiki provides information on publicans etc. for the years 1889-1923.[5] To the information provided there should be added Flintoff's Directory and Guide Book to Plymouth, Devonport, Stonehouse, and Their Vicinities (1844), which lists 'Robin Hood Inn' in New Street with a Benjamin Bowers as publican.[6] Template:PnItemQry
