Ryhall, the township in which Robin Hood's Stone was located.

By Henrik Thiil Nielsen, 2017-05-30. Revised by Henrik Thiil Nielsen, 2021-02-12.

'Robin Hood's Stone' is listed as a field-name in the English Place-Name Society's volume on Rutland, which refers to unspecified maps dated 1780 and 1801.[1] A search in Rutland tithe awards[2] has not yielded any results. According to an article in a local newspaper (2015) , Robin Hood's Stone "was to be found at Belmesthorpe at one time".[3] Belmesthorpe is in Ryhall township, only about 600 m south of Ryhall itself. However, as the writer cites no source for his rather imprecise statement, let us stick with Ryhall, a slightly less specific but more certain localization. In lieu of the actual coordinates of the stone I use those for Ryhall in the infobox and on the Google map.
