Cuddington, near which Robin Hood's Butts were located.

According to the third English Place-Name Society volume on Cheshire. "Robin Hoods Butts" occurs as a field name in a tithe award dated 1839.[1] Being a field name, it possibly refers to a strip of arable land.[2]However, where the locality in question can be identified, the name "Robin Hood's Butts" usually refers to ancient mounds, which thus may well also turn out to be the type of locality concerned here. It is hoped that further research in the tithe awards will reveal the location and nature of this locality. Pending this, the coordinates used in the Google map and the infobox are those of Cuddington, the township in which Robin Hood's Butts were located.
