Plumpton Park was located not far from the point indicated.

[[File:|thumb|right|500px|Barlow Grange, north of which was a locality known as Plumpton Park in the late 18th century / Google Earth Street View.]]

By Henrik Thiil Nielsen, 2013-07-18. Revised by Henrik Thiil Nielsen, 2019-06-07.

In the Gest, King Edward is exasperated at noticing the scarcity of deer in Plumpton Park after Robin and his men have been poaching there during their stay with the knight. We should almost certainly take this to be in Lancashire, but it could just possibly be some place King Edward is meant to have visited after his progress in Lancashire.

According to a forthcoming VCH volume,[1] there was once a place named Plumpton Park northwest of Barlow, not very far from Barlow Grange. It is indicated on Jeffery's 1772 map of Yorkshire. A.H. Smith[2] cites an 1841 Ordnance Survey map as his only source. I have not seen Jeffery's 1772 map, but I have checked the tithe awards for Barlow, Burn, Drax and Selby without finding any mention of this Plumpton Park. The coordinates and map location shown here are (I believe) those of Barlow Grange.Template:PnItemQry
