Little John's Cave which was located very near [[Little John's Well (Hampole)|Little John's Well]] on the NE side of Doncaster Road (A638), 1.3 km NW of Hampole, a little west of Barnsdale, has been filled in, and the well structure is derelict. The name is first recorded in an 1838 MS Tithe Award where it appears as "Little John's Cave & Well".<ref>{{:Smith, Albert Hugh 1961a}}, pt. II, p. 44. I have not found this in the 1838 tithe award for Hampole online at [https://www.thegenealogist.co.uk the Genealogist], Piece 43, sub-piece 190, image 288-90 (subscription required), but it is probably incomplete as it runs to only three pages.</ref> The locality is very close to Hazel Lane Quarry, an active limestone quarry.

Little John's Cave which was located very near Little John's Well on the NE side of Doncaster Road (A638), 1.3 km NW of Hampole, a little west of Barnsdale, has been filled in, and the well structure is derelict. The name is first recorded in an 1838 MS Tithe Award where it appears as "Little John's Cave & Well".[1] The locality is very close to Hazel Lane Quarry, an active limestone quarry.
