This section lists secondary sources on the origins and historical background of the Robin Hood tradition, works on historical topics such as the medieval sheriff, yeomanry, archery etc. It also includes a subsection on records relating to historical persons named Robin Hood or surnamed Robinhood (or similar), historical persons carrying the same names as subsidiary characters in the tradition, historical outlaws, historical sheriffs etc. Also included are records documenting important Robin Hood-related place-names. Note that letters tend to be categorized as allusions rather than records.
