Friar's Close, Selston
Friar's Close, Selston / Google Earth Street View.

By Henrik Thiil Nielsen, 2018-05-23. Revised by Henrik Thiil Nielsen, 2021-01-07.

Friar's Close, a residential cul-de-sac on the north side of Sherwood Way in Selston, is no doubt of 20th century date, for it is not included on late 19th to early 20th century O.S. maps. In view of the presence of a street named after Sherwood Forest and one named after Maid Marian in the immediate vicinity, it is very likely that "friar" in this street name refers to Friar Tuck.
