Witnesses for the Defence, JANE CONELLY. I live at 8, Robin Hood-court, Shoe-lane—on Sunday, 18th September, I was with the prisoner—we went to a christening all together it Little Pearl-street, Shoreditch—me and her sister and a young man—we had some drink there—the prisoner was very drunk, and my sister took her home and put her to bed, at 28, Little Popham-street—I then went to look for her young man, and afterwards found him in Elder-walk, fighting with the prosecutrix's sweetheart, Bill Fieldy—her brother then came up, stripped himself to his trousers, and fought the prisoner's young man—I said to Margaret Dunn, "You ought to be ashamed of yourself for letting your brother fight like that"—she called me a frightful name and hit me, and I hit her in return, and she and I had a fight—after it was all over, we went back to the prisoner's house—that was about ten minutes to 12—she was then asleep in bed with her baby—I left her a little after 10, and got back about ten minutes to 12, and she was in bed all that time.[1]
