IRHB comments
An essoin was an excuse for nonappearance in court. Robert Hood is one of the (alleged) culprits in this case, but the nature of the crime is not stated. It could be trespass to person, chattels or land, each of which category again has several subcategories (see Wikipedia: Trespass).
