  • Sherwood Way, Selston By Henrik Thiil Nielsen, 2018-05-23. Revised by … Sherwood Way, a residential street in Selston, leads east-north-east from Portland Road. Not included on late 19th to early 20th century O.S. maps, this street is no doubt of 20th century date. This street name may have been inspired by the proximity to Sherwood Forest rather than the Robin Hood tradition, but it is natural to think that it inspired the more or less certainly Robin Hood-related names of two of its side streets: Maid Marion Avenue (Selston) and Friar's Close (Selston). • Friar's Close, Selston By Henrik Thiil Nielsen, 2018-05-23. Revised by … Friar's Close, a residential cul-de-sac on the north side of Sherwood Way in Selston, is no doubt of 20th century date, for it is not included on late 19th to early 20th century O.S. maps. In view of the presence of a street named after Sherwood Forest and one named after Maid Marian in the immediate vicinity, it is very likely that "friar" in this street name refers to Friar Tuck. • Sherwood Junior School, By Henrik Thiil Nielsen, 2018-05-20. Revised by … Sherwood Junior School in Warsop is situated on the west side of Sherwood Street, near the corner of Sherwood and Titchfield streets. Presumably it takes it name from the street and/or the part of Sherwood Forest nearby which inspired the street name. If the name itself is thus not Robin Hood-related, the school is nonetheless part of a cluster of localities with Robin Hood/Sherwood-themed names in Warsop. Missing from late-19th to mid-20th century O.S. maps, the school (and its name) probably date from the latter half of the 20th century.
