A public house named the Robin Hood existed in Cheadle Heath in 1850. Its precise location is not known, but it was almost certainly located on Stockport Road.

The pub is listed in the History, Gazetteer & Directory of Cheshire for 1850, with a Samuel Woodall as publican.[1] The maps listed below do not include a 'P.H.' indication (for 'public house') in the area of interest, but a comparison with Google Earth suggests that the area now referred to as Cheadle Heath lies somewhat to the east of that so named on the early maps. Tithe awards for townships in the area show that at least two Samuel Woodalls owned and/or leased plots of land there, but they do not list a public house owned or run by either, which may indicate that the Robin Hood was built on land for which tithes were not payable.[2] The coordinate chosen in order to put this pub on the interactive maps it that of a randomly chosen point along the stretch of Stockport Road that runs though what was then understood to be Cheadle Heath. Since publicans would presumably like to situate their businesses where traffic was brisk, the intersection of Stockport Road and some other street is the best suggestion we can make. Very likely, therefore, this pub was identical with that listed as belonging to Bell & Co Ltd. and situated on Stockport Road during some unstated period between 1835 and 1975.[3]
