In existence by 1841, the Robin Hood pub in Hatfield Woodhouse was severely damaged in a fire in 2009, at which time the pub had been empty for several years.

The earliest record of this pub known to IRHB is the tithe award for the parish of Hatfield, drawn up in 1841. It lists the property as 'Robin Hood Public House & Garth', providing the following details: area 3 roods and 16 perches (3439.83 m²); landowner: John Burton; occupier: John Croft. State of cultivation is listed as "Grass". The earliest map evidence we have found so far is a 6" O.S. map of the area published in 1853, based on surveying done in 1849-53 (see Maps section below).

According to a newspaper article published in October 2009, the pub had then remained empty for several years. After Hatfield Woodhouse residents campaigned to save the pub, major renovations were announced by its manager Andrew Hempsall in April 2009. "The new Robin Hood was set to contain a bar, community area and dining room", but on 14 October 2009 the pub was severely damaged in a fire. An arson probe was underway as of that date.
