A pub named the Robin Hood was in business at 174–78 Lever Street, Bolton, by 1818 and until 1933.

The pub was just across the street from Robin Hood Mills. Its immediate neighbour to the southwest was a pub named the Little John, which was in existence by 1924. The Robin Hood figures on 25" maps of the area from 1895 on, being indicated simply as 'P.H.' However, the pub was much older. Already in 1818 we find it run by a William Beech, whose family retained the lincense until the 1890s, perhaps until WWI or later, when the pub was bought by Joseph Sharman & Sons, who in 1928 sold it on to George Shaw & Son Ltd of Leigh, who were in turn bought out by Walker Cain Ltd of Warrington in 1931. The latter also acquired the adjacent Little John and in 1933 decided to close the Robin Hood. It has been plausibly suggested that a bowling green situated just northwest of the pubs and belonging to the latter pub was taken ower by the Little John at that time.[1]
