The former Little John, Bolton.

By Henrik Thiil Nielsen, 2022-04-17. Revised by Henrik Thiil Nielsen, 2022-04-17.

A now defunct pub named the Little John was located at 184 Lever Street,[1] on the corner of that street and Spring Street in Bolton. It was in existence by 1924.[2]

The pub was just across the street from Robin Hood Mills. It was still in business in April of 2014,[3] but had closed by December 2020.[4] A few metres to the northeast of it was formerly a Robin Hood pub. It has been plausibly suggested that a bowling alley situated just northwest of the latter was transferred to the ownership of the Little John in the early 1930s when the Robin Hood closed.[5] The Little John formerly belonged to the brewery of Robert Wood & Son (in business by 1880 and until 1924 or later),[2] then William Tong & Sons Ltd (founded c. 1820 and, after changes of ownership, in business until 1940)[6] and later Walker Cain Ltd.[7] The pub was fully licensed from 1962 on.[8]
